Bixby Public Schools are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Director of Vocal Music. Please review the following description and requirements.
Experience: Candidates should demonstrate a proficiency in all areas of vocal music- vocal styles, choral techniques, and sight-reading. Extensive experience in solo work as well as in small and large ensemble performance situations. Previous experience preferred but not required for consideration.
Special Knowledge/Skills: Applicants should have adequate keyboard/piano skills. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency with vocal skills. Knowledge of subjects assigned. General knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Description and Duties: The Assistant Director of Vocal Music will assist in all aspects of the secondary (7-12) vocal music program. The assistant director will work closely with the director of vocal music to develop a vertically aligned curriculum and program culture, rooted in student success, artistic creativity and lifelong learning. Other duties include:
- Prepare students for all-district and all-state auditions and solo/ensemble competitions
- Serving as musical director of the high school musical in coordination with other vocal music department responsibilities
- Oversee fundraising and administrate all associated activity accounts for the middle school site or as assigned by the head director
- Organize any travel for performances, contest, outings, tours and major trips as assigned by the head director
- Excellent team player who will work with fellow fine arts colleagues to build the fine arts programs and foster student participation
- Work with all the head director, as well as, elementary and intermediate music teachers on recruitment efforts
- Develop strong community relations through organized outreach and regular ensemble performances
- Demonstrate a vision for program growth and long term planning for the Bixby Vocal Music Department
- Willingness to accept extra duty requirements to provide before and/or after school rehearsal to ensure student success and opportunity
- Participate in local and state professional development activities on a regular basis and represent BPS Vocal Music on the district, state and regional level.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Vocal Music or site/district administration
Minimum Requirements: Bachelors in Music and appropriate certification for secondary vocal music.
